State Rep. Gina Hinojosa won Tuesday's midterm election over incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott. She will take office at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2027, according to the Texas Constitution. Abbott's four-year term ends at that time, and Hinojosa's four-year term begins. Her term runs through January 2031.

Before the handover, local election authorities will finish counting votes in Texas' 254 counties. The state will then certify the results. The 90th Texas Legislature will convene at the State Capitol in Austin in early January 2027.

On Jan. 19, Hinojosa will take the constitutional oath of office on the south steps of the Texas State Capitol.
