The Houston Astros introduced Randy Flores as their 15th general manager on Monday. The team hired him on Friday to replace Dana Brown, who was let go in August. Astros owner Jim Crane said Flores stood out among the candidates interviewed and called him a "perfect fit." Crane said Flores has experience in every area of baseball.

Flores had been an assistant general manager for the St. Louis Cardinals, where he spent eight seasons from 2019 through 2026. He joined the Cardinals' front office as director of scouting in 2015. Flores said he feels excitement, nerves and a sense of weight in the role.

His first task will be hiring a new manager. The Astros did not renew the contract of Joe Espada after the team was swept by the Chicago White Sox in the Wild Card Series. Flores said he will start on that search right away.
